Hardness Critical Ring Type Joints

Hardness of Ring Type Joint gaskets is a critical factor when sealing RTJ flanges. By ensuring the gaskets are a minimum of 30 BHN softer than the flange, the rings will deform and affect a seal without damaging the RTJ grooves on the flanges.

AMG’s vast stock includes annealed SS316L ring type joints which have a maximum hardness of 135BHN. Some of our stock rings when annealed fall well under this and we are able to verify individual ring hardness by testing in house on our Rockwell Hardness Tester.

Reporting on individual hardness of each ring ensures that our customers are certain of the actual hardness before use – so gaskets can be installed with confidence.
